Fear is probably the number one reason prospective entrepreneurs never start a business! Don’t let the fear of failing kill your passion, dreams and desires to become more than what you currently are!
Inspirational moments come to us all. I am sure you have already had many of them during your life time. I know I have! Have you ever had an idea about something that you know nobody else has ever thought of before? Sometimes it’s just a fleeting moment, but a great idea. Then you forget about it and you never give it a thought again. Other times it comes and you can’t get it out of you head. You know it is a great idea, but you never take action to implement it. Then one day you hear or see that someone else has marketed that same idea. Not only have they marketed it… it is a total success!
Now what is it that keeps us doing this same thing over and over again? We have more and more ideas that just go to waste because we don’t take any action. Some people call this procrastination. To me, procrastination is just the action, well the lack of it! Procrastination is not completing something we want or need to accomplish! What actually is keeps us from taking action is not procrastination. It’s really nothing else but fear… Fear of failure and sometimes, even fear of success!
Everybody has the capability of becoming successful. Some people are more successful than others… Why? It is really because they take the necessary action to implementing their dreams! Our positive dreams are nothing more than ideal thoughts of what we would like to accomplish in life. Our negative dreams are our fears of doubt that we are not capable of successfully accomplishing them!
Now I have to admit that procrastination is a major fault of my own. I combat it all the time. Procrastination for me is usually caused not by fear of not succeeding, it’s because I have a strong desire for success and end up taking on too much! Other people may find they avoid starting something because they fear failure of succeeding! This is why so many never think of starting a business!
Fear is a natural instinct. Fear is our fleeing instinct that protects us from physical or mental harm. It is an instinct that all living creatures have. As humans we have the right to choose, given or not, we have the ability to choose what we fear or how we choose to handle what challenges us! Learning our fears, whether they be self-inflicted or inflicted by others, is critical to all of us becoming successful in business or anything else of significance we set out to accomplish.
So when it comes to our “#1 Don’t” when starting a business; it is “Don’s fear about starting a business!” This is essential if you want to be successful in business! If you currently are living in the 9-5 rat race, you have already been conditioned to having a normal JOB! Yes, actually you have been precondition as well… starting all the way back to when you were in elementary school, let alone by your parents!
How many times where you asked, what do you want to be when you grow up? You might even have had to write a paper and then read it to your classmates. You might even have had one of your parents coming to give a presentation to the class about what they do to make a living. Now though out your education you were being directed down some main stream occupational path. Sure that may not be a bad thing… because some of us are leaders; the majority of us are followers! If you know you’re a leader, then it is really up too you to start thinking out of the box.
Most early to secondary educational public institutions do not guide their students, let alone instruct them on the possibilities of becoming an entrepreneur. Remember we all are capable of controlling our own destiny… What’s more, it’s NEVER too late to change your path!
Yes, there are many things for us to fear about when starting a business… It’s a major decision and undertaking. No one is saying: “Quit our day Job!” You can still work and start your own work at home business. Yes, it’s going to be challenging, but you can do it! I did…that means you can too! It’s all about mind set! Remember our number one fear is “Fear itself”. Don’t let fear keep you from starting to follow your passion. Follow it because it will take you where you want to go!
